David Duvall Celebrates the Songs of…

A special once-a-month concert series focusing on popular composers and songwriting teams contributing to The Great American Songbook.

Duvall is joined onstage by his live jazz trio, along with some special guests, and each concert is a delightful afternoon of music, both familiar and rarely heard.

Songwriters to be celebrated in this series include Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, The Gershwins, Rodgers & Hart, Johnny Mercer, Bacharach & David, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen and Jule Styne.

Act2PV is excited to try out a matinee show time with this series. The 2 pm start time allows the audience to get into a comfy air-conditioned environment in the heat of the day and the concert will finish before naptime or dinner and the sunset.

“These shows are only going to happen once – a different composer celebrated each month, and only one performance,” says Duvall. “I know it’s always tough to expect people to come inside on a beautiful, sunny day, but for those of us who live here year round – or half-year round: The sun will also be out tomorrow, so you may as well see the ‘only available today’ concert while you can!” The cost of the matinee will be less than the evening ticket prices.

The concert series will begin on December 17th with a re-mount of the Cole Porter Birthday Concert that Duvall presented at Incanto in June.

“I was surprised at how enthusiastic the response was,” said Duvall. “We had nearly a sold out house in JUNE! Way after “the season” had ended. I guess more people were interested in hearing those classic songs than I thought. And so many people came up to me afterward and asked me to do it again and/or do more shows like this of other composers that the idea for a monthly series was born”.

For those who saw the June concert, Duvall is changing the song selection – so there will be different songs and stories being shared.

Cole Porter is one of the all-time great songwriters for Broadway and Film. Remembered primarily for his shows ‘Kiss Me, Kate,’ ‘Anything Goes,’ and ‘Can-Can,’ he also created such standards as ‘I Get A Kick Out Of You,’ ‘Begin The Beguine,’ ‘Night And Day,’ ‘My Heart Belongs To Daddy,’ and ‘From This Moment On.’

He had an extraordinary life, and Duvall shares anecdotes about him and his creative process in the show.

Before moving to Puerto Vallarta and becoming a regular entertainer at Incanto, Duvall performed in countless nightclubs and theatres across the US.

He has been described as “a gifted story-teller in both song and backstage stories,” with a “smooth, rich voice,” who is “among the great interpreters of Cole Porter’s lyric.”

After 45 years of studying, arranging, and singing the works of these iconic writers, Duvall has gained an incredible insight into this type of music.

His unique ability to share stories and anecdotes about the writers and their creations is reminiscent of Bobby Short’s renowned performances at New York City’s Cafe Carlyle.
