Finding Frida!

As the vibrant community of Puerto Vallarta prepares for Vallarta Pride 2025, a unique and exciting opportunity arises for all creative souls to get involved.

Bar Frida 4.0, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is thrilled to announce the no-gender “Finding Frida” contest. The contest will take place on Saturday, April 26th, starting at 9:00 PM at Bar Frida 4.0, located at 493 Venustiano Carranza. This event falls under the theme of Vallarta Pride 2025: “Vallarta Pride Revolution – Future Had No Gender.”

The “Finding Frida” contest invites participants to embrace their artistic vision of the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and channel that through karaoke or lip-sync performances. Contestants will have the chance to represent Bar Frida and participate in the upcoming Gay Pride Parade on May 22nd, as well as various events throughout the year. This initiative not only celebrates Frida Kahlo’s legacy and artistic spirit but also aims to foster inclusivity and encourage self-expression within the LGBTQ+ community, welcoming participants of all genders.

Competitors in the contest will vie for prizes that celebrate their creativity and talent. The first-place winner will receive 1,000 pesos along with a custom costume designed by Bar Frida 4.0, ensuring a spectacular representation of Frida in the 2025 Pride Parade. Second and third place will also be awarded prizes of 500 pesos and 300 pesos, respectively. The significance of honoring Frida Kahlo in this context cannot be overstated; her life and art serve as powerful symbols of individuality, resilience, and the celebration of different identities.

To participate, individuals can register through Facebook Messenger or email, showcasing their interpretation of “Finding Frida” during the karaoke contest. The event will conclude at 11:00 PM, with winners selected by both the patrons of Bar Frida 4.0 and a panel of judges. This interactive and engaging format not only highlights creativity but also brings the community together in a shared celebration of art, identity, and pride.

Bar Frida, founded in 2001 by Tom Finley, has become a beloved institution within the Puerto Vallarta community. The establishment began at a modest lesbian bar with a mission to create a welcoming space for friends and family. As the years have passed, Bar Frida has evolved, moving from various locations, including Frida 2.0 on Insurgentes for 12 years and then to Frida 3.0 on Lazaro Cardenas for two years, before settling at its current location as Bar Frida 4.0 on Venustiano Carranza.

As the bar approaches its 25th anniversary on June 1st, management plans to express gratitude towards its loyal customers by hosting a “Customer Appreciation Night” every month starting Thursday, June 19th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The celebration will feature drink and food specials, along with a complimentary shot of Frida’s Tequila, further solidifying Bar Frida’s reputation as a cherished gathering spot in the community.

The “Finding Frida” contest serves as a spectacular kickoff to Vallarta Pride 2025 and a testament to Bar Frida 4.0’s commitment to fostering creativity and inclusion. Those interested in showcasing their talent and embodying the spirit of Frida Kahlo are encouraged to register soon. Join in the celebration, express your identity, and help promote a vision of a future where everyone can boldly and proudly express who they are.
