Myths and Realities of Homeopathy

Remember that homeopathy is the world’s second most widely used medical system behind allopathy. Homeopathy is the science and art of healing using infinitesimal doses, the principles of similarity according to the set of symptoms minimum but maximum value in each patient. That is why we say that we cure patients and not diseases alone.

More than 200 years old, a methodology, homeopathic science, clinical, dosage, and philosophy often seem insufficient to avoid confusion, misunderstandings, myths, and even accusations by the detractors of this medical discipline.

So, let’s take a look at some of the most common myths and their reality regarding homeopathy:

  1. Homeopathy is placebo. Many detractors argue homeopathy has no active substance and does not work. They attribute it to the placebo effect, i.e., a suggestion. However, recent spectrophotometry studies and articles published in La Homeopatia de México have demonstrated the activity of different homeopathic remedies, finding particles of them in the internal organs of some animals, as well as different images that demonstrate how each homeopathic medicine has a different light pattern.

Homeopathy also has a different potency scale than conventional grams or milligrams as an indication of the potency of a medicine.
  2. Homeopathic remedies are very slow. This argument is often heard from people who have never used it. Remember, homeopathy does not seek to relieve symptoms but goes to the root of the problem to solve it layer by layer, achieving a complete cure, not suppression of symptoms. People who have been multi-medicated, with chronic diseases that have been evolving for a long time, with a poor diet, or drug addictions to tobacco, alcohol, or drugs, react more slowly to this treatment because their nervous system and immune system have a diminished capacity to respond and therefore need more time to break this resistance.
  3. Homeopathy does NOT cure or is harmful. This expression is widely used by some people or doctors with minimal knowledge or relationship to homeopathy. Remember that, like any treatment, a bad treatment will not benefit the patient. However, homeopathy, by stimulating our body’s innate capacity for homeostasis and immune response, tends to be gentle and progressive in the effects on the people who use it. We must also consider that, like any other medical system or treatment, its use should not be limited to other therapies or treatments since, in some cases, a synergy will sometimes be needed from some type of diet, exercise, manual techniques, or even allopathy.
  4. Homeopathy is pseudoscience. This accusation is prevalent and is found all over the Internet by some health professionals and even some supplement sellers. Always arguing the conventional scientific method. However, many of these people are unaware of the research, the methodology, the pharmacopeia, the clinic, and the therapeutic method that homeopathy has been based on for more than 200 years. Remember that for homeopathy, there are not two identical patients, and therefore, there are not two pathologies that are cured with the same medicine given in the same dosage and potency. It is complicated to do clinical trials such as those done in conventional medicine; however, in academic journals such as La Homeopatia de México, Scielo magazine, PubMed, Elsevier, and others, treatment schemes, homeopathic repertoire, and effects of some homeopathic medicines as a solution to pathologies such as hypertension, etc., have already been documented.

To conclude, not knowing about a subject, whether medical or not, does not give anyone the right to accuse or belittle it since, on the contrary, it only minimizes ourselves.

In a world where every day there are new challenges in the health field, costs of living are increasing, and fewer people can afford their medical services, tools such as homeopathy could help these people improve their health and quality of life at a fraction of the cost and without adverse side effects.

As I always say: used in the right way, in the right dose and potency for each person.
