Who Are We – Really?

Hafiz, a Persian Sufi Master and Poet, was born and died roughly around the same timeline as the great English poet Geoffrey Chaucer.  Hafiz dedicated one of his books of poetry, The Gift,

“To God in his magnificent masquerade – as us.”

To me, this one line said it all.  It reaffirmed that everyone, no matter who they are or what role you may perceive yourself or others acting out, are God/Divine. This is not easy to accept because of our need to judge and see ourselves as separate or apart from others instead of seeing everyone as a part of everything.

Then along comes the concept of quantum entanglement, that we are all linked together and that it is all happening ‘now.’  Then, a few years ago, a thesis toward a Doctor of Physics degree was accepted at Oxford University, stating that the universe as we know it is actually a hologram.

“All is written within the mind
To help and instruct the dervish
In dance and romance and prayer.”

We find it quite difficult that research is underway to prove that the world we find ourselves living in is all in our mind. And yet Hafiz wrote “All is written within the mind” in the 1300s.

What we experience and act out is, in fact, a movie/play, perhaps a dream, and for many, a total nightmare. The bandwidth of our collective consciousness gets picked up, and we find ourselves living in a world of our own creation. Most of us are caught up believing it is real and often say, “How could a loving God do this?” as we currently witness crisis after crisis of humanity’s inhumanity towards one other when we are all equal divine beings here having a human experience.

When Hafiz (his nom de plume means memorizer) wrote in his little poem, Perfection:

I hear the voice of every creature and plant.
Every world and sun and galaxy –
Singing the Beloved’s Name!

Then “we,” and that means you, me, all the ‘others’ – discover there are no ‘others’ – we are part of everything, the tree you were admiring, the stone you just picked up, the glass of water you just drank, the dog crossing the street as well as the earth you are standing on and the neighbor that drives you mad is also you.   Everywhere you are is sacred ground because of who you already are.  There is just me/you – better known as the ‘IAM’ simply having this incredible experience as a human, and there is only One, and we are IT.

The Mayans had a saying: “In Lak’ech” – you are my mirror, or I am you, and you are me.

And in my most spiritual expression, “Holy Shit,” – I realized that I had created this world I find myself currently experiencing.

We truly have forgotten who we are.  Very few will accept the reality of who “We”- ALL ARE: – there are no exceptions, ever – we are all god in drag – and why are we/god here, at this time, taking on the heroic role of being human?

Gaia/Mother Earth is also a soul. This soul has chosen to have a planetary experience and continues to move on to her ‘more.’  We are all in this same soup together, each adding our own flavor, intensity, and perception of time.

We are energy; that is truly what we are, everything we perceive.  We vibrate at a frequency depending on remembering ‘home’ where we believe we come from and then realizing that we have never left.

The ‘reality’ we perceive and experience comes from our mind of how we think and feel –that is what we project, and what we project is what we create and what we create is the life we find ourselves experiencing.

If there is a desire to change our lives, then we must change how we feel and think – about our ‘self.’

Being a long-time student of A Course in Miracles and sharing ACIM with others over the past thirty or more years, I went back to my toolbox of wonders and reread Lesson 156. “I walk with God in perfect holiness. I light the world; I light my mind and all the minds which God created one with me.”

There is nothing new I am offering here – this is all based on the ‘Golden Rule’ – the first concept given us to create a life of bliss where Heaven is right here, right now.

 Philemon 1:7-20, Psalm 146.6-1- and Luke 17:20-25

“The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Lo, Here it is!’ or ‘There!’ – for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” (Luke 17:20-21)

The idea that a human being can achieve “perfect love” or “perfect knowing” may seem extraordinary, yet most spiritual systems share this belief.

It is called by many names: Union with the Father/Mother God – Samadhi.  The highest development of consciousness, God-realization, and the list goes on.

One begins to experience life as an infinite and continuous flow of divine love, swirling in, around, and through all forms of life and all realms of creation. It is an experience of total unity with all life and all beings. It personifies joy, perfect knowing, and perfect love and expresses these qualities in every activity of life.

Some of you may have experienced a nanosecond of perfect bliss, whether in meditation, walking through old growth, sitting by a stream, witnessing a birth or death – or simply sitting quietly and watching life go by.

I had one of my most intense experiences in a children’s restaurant with all the animated forest animals and the same song playing over and over again. In a nanosecond, it all disappeared, and I ‘knew’ God as I waited for our jug of beer and pizza.

It is in that state of equanimity, of neutrality, witnessing, and then witnessing the witness where it all unfolds, and you ‘see’ the reality of what is truth and what is illusion.

Everything changes, and the best way to describe what happens to your life after that moment of bliss, awareness, samadhi, is the title of a book by Jack Kornfeld – “After the Ecstasy, the Laundry.”

So who are we, really – give it some thought.

Thank you for reading my words.
